The Light of Christmas

“In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

‭‭John‬ ‭1:4-5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Christmas is filled with lights. Tree lights, bulbs outlining our roofs, candles, and plenty of shopper’s car lights.

However, on the first Christmas, the light of the whole world came to us.

Other than colorful LEDs, Christmastime, and our whole lives as Christians should be filled with light. Today I want to share some of my own thoughts as well and some from my church's Christmas Eve service on the light Christmas and Christians.

First of all, let‘s remember the light of the excitement and wonder of Christmas. I don’t just mean the feeling of opening presents on Christmas morning (though this is a wonderful feeling). I mean the wonder of the one and only God. He rules the whole world and came as a baby because he loves us so much.

Luke 2: 16-19 says:

“When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.”

This Christmas, instead of complacently listening to the Christmas story, let’s look at it with renewed wonder.

Like those who heard about this for the first time, on the first Christmas, let's be amazed.

The light of the world loves us so much that He came as a baby to save us. Let's celebrate this miracle.

And when Jesus' hope and light fills our life, it should flow into every other part of our lives. Like a candle when lit, our glow and warmth should fill the room. However, unlike a candle, when we give away our light, we won't dwindle down to nothingness. I've personally experienced that the more you give away, the more you will be filled.

Don't forget that Jesus is THE light.

God is the one we should look to to fill us up through reading the Bible, and prayer. No Christmas lights or traditions will fill you up this Christmas us much as He will.

Merry Christmas! Thank you so much for reading my blog, it really means so much to me. I'm so thankful for you! Keep an eye out for an exciting post December 30th!
